The next thing you need to think about is your equipment.

A mistake many players make is stick with their old stuff, dreaming about the perfect item while totally missing other good opportunities. The mantra is: Good enough is fine.

Mage PvP Strengths

As you might imagine, the strength of a Mage in PvP is the ability to zap your enemies with magical attacks from great distances. Your potent attacks and huge stock of mana mean you can fry any opponent that stands still long enough. Any smart opponent will try to prevent that happening. Fortunately, you can usually immobilize your target with stuns and freezes, leaving them a sitting duck while you blast them. If you do it right you can take out most foes in seconds.

Mage PvP Weaknesses

It is great that you can usually keep your enemies at a distance. While your character is very strong in ranged combat, melee is a different matter. Picture yourself going toe to toe with a huge guy swinging a broadsword, or a wild animal on speed, while you’re wearing a bathrobe and holding a big stick. That’s your Mage in melee combat. If they get close enough to hit you in melee, you are dead meat. The chances of you surviving such an encounter are tiny. And if you do, you have almost no ability to heal your injuries. Frost-related spells can give you some protection in these circumstances, but face it, if someone gets close enough to whack you with a warhammer, rake you with claws, or skewer you with a spear, its all over.

Shaman PvP Strengths

Shaman used to be among the most feared of all PvP classes. This is no longer the case, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do very well in player versus player combat using a Shaman. Doing so requires smarts and an understanding of the tactical situation. Your biggest weapon is your array of totems. They can buff you, harm your enemies, and much more, giving you a unique style of play and some powerful advantages.

Rogue PvP Strengths

I’ll say it right out. Few classes are as effective, or as feared in PvP. Because you are so well-rounded, it’s hard to pick out your greatest strength. Once you become proficient with them, Stunblocks are deadly weapons. A well-executed stunlock can leave your opponent immobilized or staggering around in a daze, and make them easy pickings for you and your teammates. Learn to do this right, and if you have a good Rogue PvP build, few will be able to stand up to you.

Your ability to poison your foes is probably your next greatest strength. Even when your enemies run away, you’ve got options. Use your Crippling Poison to slow them down, and your Mind Numbing Poison to mess up their spell casting. Combine these with the rest of a Rogue’s abilities and you’ll drive your enemies to distraction as you terminate them.

Rogue PvP Weaknesses

One big weakness of being a Rogue in large battles is that other players don’t like you very much. Most players have been terminated while left helpless by stunlocks and poison. They will be happy to take you down. This puts a big bullseye on your back, as your opponents will jump at any chance to kill you.

Beyond the fact that everyone hates you, your character’s biggest weakness is the complexity of executing a stunlock. If you get distracted by some Hunter’s pet, or the Shaman you’re after gets their Earthshield up in time, and you could be in trouble. Also, remember that you need to get in close. Let a ranged fighter keep their distance, and they’ll rip you to pieces.

Warrior PvP Strengths

If you’re playing a Warlock in World of Warcraft Player versus Player (WoW PvP) combat, you’re a target. Many PvP players hate Warlocks, while even more fear them. Your ability to curse other characters to death makes you a vicious opponent, and a powerful one. Despite your powers, you aren’t indestructible, and many of your opponents would like nothing better than to put you down. Life is very interesting for Warlocks in PvP combat.

It’s pretty easy to play a Warlock in PvP. All you need to do is lay a bunch of DoT (Damage Over Time) spells on your poor victim, then keep casting Fear on them until they fall over dead. Simple and brutally effective, if you do it correctly.
