Talent Tree-Based Mage Talents

Being a caster class, your primary talent trees focus on Arcane, Fire and Frost. These contain Mage talents that have the powers to neutralize as well as obliterate opponents through area of effect spells and burst damage. Mages also specialize in damage dealing, crowd control, spell stealing, counter spelling, and curse removal via the various advanced talents at the higher tiers of any of the class’s talent trees.

The real talents of the class, however, lie mainly in AoE and single target damage. They are not the same with other magic-wielding classes in WoW in that they are not DoT damage dealers, nor are they a pet class, or other things associated with magic classes. They are a nuking class that specializes in targeting their enemies from a distance and hurling them down to the ground using the powers of the Frost, the Fire or Arcane magic. Because of these, they are by tradition, the owners of the moniker, ‘glass cannons’.

{Arcane}
The Wall of Eternity at Kalimdor was the root of all the powers of Arcane magic. With the passing of time, the Mages became the first to use this power. As the primary wielders of Arcane magic in Azeroth, the Mages have come to become intimate with the magic.

The Arcane tree and its talents namely the Arcane Missiles and Blast are what make the Mages a nuking class. Both spells are direct arcane damage spells which could potentially take the living breath out of the Mage’s enemies. The Arcane tree also offers the Slow spell which can slow enemies down to a halt and the instant-damage ranged attack called the Arcane Barrage. Burst damage-wise, the talent tree also presents the Arcane Power and the Presence of Mind.

Although the Arcane deals mostly in inflicting damage, this is not the recommended tree for leveling. Most of the signature skills found in this tree are learned only at higher levels which may prove a difficulty for lower-level mages.

{Fire}
A Fire Mage specializes in dealing powerful sustained damage while having good mana management, making it a really scary adversary in PvP as well as PvE. A deep Fire Mage can dish out not only sustained damage capabilities but also high burst damage as well.

Playing with Fire comes with a price however. Although Fire Mages are good at managing mana, their requirements prove to make mana conservation a bit of a struggle. Sustaining the mana is, therefore, a Fire Mage’s top priority.

{Frost}
Frost Mages represent the middle ground for Arcane and Fire Mages. Frost Mages are known to deal better damage than Arcane Mages although not at par with Fire Mages. In addition, Frost Mages are also better then Fire in terms of mana regeneration but are not at par with Arcane Mages in that department.

Mage talents from each of the talent trees are often complimented by those found in other trees. Although it is not a bad idea to combine the various talents from all trees to create the ultimate spell casting character.
