Pros And Cons Of Video Games
We live in an age where every kid wants to get their hands on the latest rapid fire mods and would do anything for their dads to get them a rapid fire chip. Many parents view video games as a way to keep their kids out of the way and thus the modding xbox controller has become the perfect baby-sitter, letting parents get along with their lives knowing their kids are safe at home. Is this tendency without consequences? Let’s consider just a few pros and cons of this new fad.
Pros
* Social factor- kids who were previousely very timid have been said to open up after playing video games.
* Forget Pain- video games are loved by kids with serious illness or injuries. Its a way to take their minds off from their condition and focus on something else.
* Helps with creativity- many games need players to be creative. Childrens’ creativity can be boosted greatly by such games.
* Improves Cognitive skills- majority of games involve a lot of problem solving and strategy. Kids learn to think and solve problems.
* Self Confidence boost- we’ve all heard how youngsters brag about their accomplishments on certain games. They will have higher self confidence in general if they discover they are good at something even if its at video games.
Cons
* Bad for the eyes- prolonged time spent on screens destroy your vision. If a child has his vision destroyed at such an early age, he’ll suffer his whole life.
* Robs time- we all know that video games are really addictive and once kids are hooked, their schoolwork and other activities will be affected greatly. They won’t enjoy a healthy childhood.
* Sedentary- spending so much time sitting in front of their screens usually results in kids becoming overweight. Kids with weight issues will be prone to teasing at school and are more likely to have health problems.
* Waste of money- think of all the hundreds of dollars spend on getting the latest games or even the electricity consumed. It’s money that would have been far useful somewhere else.
* Lots of Violence- games aren’t as innocent as they used to be. They are full of gore and violence. It has been found that kids who were exposed to very violent games as kids are more likely to become violent or even criminals.
* Parent’s not doing their jobs- letting the games watch over the kids is very bad parenting. Many families lack needed communication because of these games.
There are the facts. Though video games do have their advantages, you’d want to think twice before giving in to your child’s pleas. A little more supervision will do a lot- lets not allow the games do our jobs as parents.
