Is Your Xbox 360 Broken? If So This May Help!

The Xbox 360 is one of the most powerful high definition gaming consoles currently on the market. Unfortunately due do it’s high technical specification certain faults begin to creep in, one of these is the infamous ring of death. This is where all the lights around the power button flash red, this fault however is easily fixable. Is your Xbox 360 broken well you can fix it in half an hour.

The ring of death can depict a large number of faults and you should confirm if the fault is caused by overheating using the fault control feature installed within the Xbox or one of the many troubleshooting guides, starting with the one in the manual.

I should note that this repair should only be undertaken if your Xbox is out of warranty as performing this repair will invalidate it if not.

First remove the outer case by depressing several clips placed around the case, you should use a small flat head screwdriver. When each clip has been successfully depressed a clicking sounds should be heard.

Next we will need to remove all of the screws from the metal case, this will allow us to reveal the motherboard and remove it. Before you remove it you will need to remove the DVD drive which will simply lift out once the motherboard is revealed and you will also need to disconnect power cable for the fans, located just to the left of the fans.

Once removed turn the motherboard over and remove the two x-clamps on the back. After these have been removed the two heat sinks will pull off to reveal three processor chips you should clean these with some alcohol rub and then coat each with thermal compound ensuring the entire chip is covered and that the coating is even.

Now we need to reattach the heat sinks to do this you should acquire some screws and washers instead of using the x-clamps this will allow you to achieve a better connection between the processors and heat sinks.
