Shamans are a versatile class that can play a number of roles while questing and while in raids, and instances.  They play two roles rather easily, which we will explain shortly.  If you are truly good at playing a Shaman, you have the opportunity to expand into other roles, but to do so becomes a little tricky.
Shamans bring a lot to the table and require a player to be knowledgeable of the class – there is a lot more involved than just button mashing here.  Shamans are the only class to be able to cast totems onto the ground, which can perform a number of functions ranging from slowing down enemies to significant bonuses to allies.  Shamans are allowed to have up to four totems on the ground around them at any time, and they will expire after a certain amount of time.  Shamans have the ability to call these totems back for a small exchange of mana before they expire.  These totems come with small amounts of hit points, so they are easily discarded in PvP if they are targeted.  In raids and party groups, the totems that give health points and mana to the group are most preferred.
Shamans are effective damage dealers and are also popular healers.  In fact, they are the only healer able to heal multiple people through a chain heal spell.  This interesting spell jumps from person to person, consecutively healing each one for half the amount as the one before it.
Damage dealing Shamans can unleash among the highest damage per second ratios than any of the other classes, as long as their mana holds up.  They have the ability to pass some of the damage they or allies take to a nearby totem, and they also have the ability to interrupt nearby casters.
In multiplayer melee, DPS Shamans are in demand due to the huge number of burst DPS that they put out, taking over their enemies easily and rapidly. Shamans can bring out targets without any problems with the availability of totems and spell interrupts. When it comes to a party, then healing shamans have their say due to the totems that satisfy all their requirements. Irrespective of the role or specializations they carry with them, Shamans benefit all those present in a party, and the totems are not affected and can be used for all purposes.
