Beginner’s Warlock Guide for World of Warcraft
The following WoW warlock guide will point you down the right path when starting out with a warlock. Warlocks are best known for their fire and shadow magic spells and especially for the ability to conjure and enslave demons. They’re master necromancers that deal in anguish and torment. Though they can’t stand toe to toe in up close fighting, they more than make up for that by hurling damaging spells from a distance. Several talents require the utilization of soul shards, which warlocks have to acquire from slaying enemies. The warlock class is a breeze to level up quickly due to the fact that they’re very self sufficient when soloing. They are usually among the biggest DPS dealing classes when in a party.
This class is an option that is available only to the Gnome, Orc, Blood Elf, Undead, and Human races. Since warlocks are a caster class, they are allowed only to equip cloth armor. As far as weapons go, warlocks are limited to only using wands, staves, swords and daggers.
There are several demonic minions a warlock can summon including the Voidwalker, Succubus, Infernal, Imp, Felhunter, Felguard, and Doomguard. All of the various minions are valuable, but you will need to weigh the benefits of using each of them based on the job at hand. Warlocks have a wide array of magic spells at their disposal including damage over time spells (DoT’s), direct damage spells (DD’s), and several utility spells. They can make use of soul shards in order to produce a variety of items and also to resurrect fallen comrades. They also have some limited self healing ability when using drain life, and great crowd control talents as well. One of the overlooked advantages that warlocks enjoy is that they don’t need to spend nearly as much money as other classes do to get their mounts (Dreadsteed and Felsteed).
The Affliction talent specialization is designed for bolstering curses, DoT’s and drains. For raiding or farming, this is an excellent talent spec for warlocks. Affliction is generally accepted as being the optimum leveling spec for warlocks.
Demonology talents are focused on summoning more lethal demons and improving your summoning and conjuration spells. The Demonology spec is really useful for PvP and overall survivability. It can also be good when leveling, though it’s not nearly as efficient as Affliction. You will be very reliant on your demons when using this spec.
Destruction uses talents that amplify the effectiveness of the warlock’s shadow and fire spells, which are primarily direct damage spells that can be used to quickly kill 1 opponent. The Destruction talent tree is better utilized later in the game, because it is hard to stay alive long enough to make use of it during lower levels. It requires a lot of soul shards, is less mana efficient, and is difficult to use for people who want to play by themselves.
